Beginners welcome

Beginner Pilates classes in Bristol

Never done Pilates? You're exactly who we're here for.

Boho is relaxed, affordable Pilates in Bristol where we start with the basics, help you understand the movements and build strength and confidence from there — without pressure, perfection or pretence.

Pilates for complete beginners

Plenty of people put off trying Pilates because they think they need to be fit, bendy or already know the moves. You don't. Our beginner classes assume you're starting from scratch, and we teach the fundamentals properly so you understand what your body is doing rather than just copying the person in front.

What happens in your first class

Arrive a few minutes early, say hello, find a spot. We'll run through breathing and alignment, work through a simple sequence of mat exercises, and finish with some gentle stretching. You'll be told what's coming and given easier options throughout.

What to wear

Comfortable clothes you can move and stretch in — leggings or joggers and a t-shirt are perfect. Pilates is done in bare feet or grippy socks. No special outfit needed.

What to bring

A mat if you have one, water, and grippy socks if you prefer them. Small equipment such as bands, rings and soft balls is provided.

How hard is it?

Beginner classes are steady and controlled rather than fast or exhausting. You work at your own pace, and every exercise has a simpler version.

What if you're not flexible?

Flexibility is a result of doing Pilates, not a requirement for starting. We work within your range and it improves over time.

Learning the basic movements

You'll get to know a handful of core movement patterns — breathing, pelvic position, spinal articulation, simple leg and arm work — and repeat them until they feel familiar.

Building strength gradually

Once the basics feel comfortable, we add range, load and control. Progress happens in small, sensible steps rather than big jumps.

Class size and support

Classes are kept small enough that you get looked after, corrected kindly and never left to guess.

Beginner questions

I've never done Pilates before — is that a problem?
Not at all. That's exactly why these classes exist. We start with the fundamentals and explain what each movement is doing and why.
I'm not fit or flexible. Can I still come?
Yes. You don't need to be fit or flexible to start — those are things we work on together, gradually.
Will everyone else know what they're doing?
It doesn't matter if they do. You'll be shown what to do, given options, and encouraged to work at your own pace.
Do I need special clothes or equipment?
No fancy kit required. Comfortable clothes you can move in are enough. Bring a mat if you have one; let us know if you don't.
What if I can't do something?
We'll adapt it and build up over time. Pilates isn't about performing for the room.
How hard is a beginner class?
Steady rather than punishing. You should finish feeling like you've worked, not wiped out. Everything has an easier and a harder option.
Where are the classes held?
